Ocarina of Time Replica: Song Bird Ocarina

If you were ever a fan of the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, you may have some fond memories of solving puzzles, riding around Hyrule, and of course playing that oh-so-important virtual ocarina.

I recently came across a replica Ocarina of Time and it got me to thinking about actually purchasing one. Now, musical talent is not exactly one of my strong suits. The last wind instrument that I actually played was the recorder in 4th grade and to be honest I was terrible.

So I was a little hesitant about shelling out 80 to 100 dollars on one of the more high-end models out there. Especially since I didn’t even know if I was going to like playing the ocarina.

On the other hand, I didn’t want a piece of junk or something that sounded like total garbage either. I wanted something that looked like Link’s ocarina, sounded good, and was capable of playing music from the Zelda games.

What I found was a happy medium in an Ocarina of Time replica from Songbird Ocarinas.

The model I chose was a sweet potato design. It’s a ceramic 6 hole ocarina shaped and decorated to look just as Link’s does in the game. The ocarina has a range of C-E and can play all the sharps and flats for an octave plus 3.

The craftsmanship is quite good as the ocarina is handmade and tuned by the makers. This gives Songbird’s ceramic ocarina a much better sound than a simple plastic ocarina.

I was also pretty surprised at how good the ocarina sounded and how fast I was able to pick it up considering my complete lack of talent. Within a couple of hours I was even able to play a few songs from the booklet that comes with the ocarina. A number of great Zelda songs are included here like the Song of Time and Serenade of Water.

If you are a musical novice like me and want an Ocarina of Time replica to play or just to have, the 6 hole sweet potato from Songbird is a good buy.

The 6 hole design makes it easy for beginners to learn how to play compared to a 10 or 12 hole ocarina. At the same time, the cool design makes it a nice decoration piece and just fun to look at.

Sitting at a comfortable mid-range price of around $45, this ocarina is superior to cheaper plastic ones and less expensive than most other ceramic ocarinas. Giving you the most bang for your buck.
